"This morning, respectively in Rome and Barcelona, two priests were beatified: Carmelite Angelo Paoli and Capuchin José Tous y Soler ...
Regarding Blessed Angelo Paoli, originally from Lunigiana who lived through the 17th and 18th centuries, I am happy to recall that he was the apostle of charity in Rome, given the title "Father of the poor." He dedicated himself especially to the sick in the hospital of San Giovanni, taking care also of convalescents. His apostolate drew its strength from the Eucharist and from devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, together with an intense life of penance. In the Year of the Priesthood, I warmly propose his example to all priests, and in a particular way to those who belong to institutes of active religious life."

Carmel is celebrating and thanking God for the gift of the Beatification of Fr. Angelo Paoli. This morning, 25th April 2010 during a solemn Eucharist in the Papal Arch-basilica of St. John Latern in Rome presided over by the Vicar of His Holiness, Cardinal Agostino Vallini, the representative of the Holy Father and Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Archbishop Angelo Amato, presided at the rite of Beatification.
Many members of the Carmelite Family fittingly represented many other sisters and brothers who were unable to come to Rome. Together with the bishops, concelebrating were the Prior General, Fr. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., the Councillor General for Europe, Fr. John Keating, O.Carm, the Prior Provincial of the Italian Province, Fr. Giandomenico Meloni, O.Carm. and a large number of Carmelite friars. Also present was the Carmelite bishop, Mons. Filippo Iannone, bishop of Sora-Aquino-Pontecorvo and Fr. Joseph Chalmers, O.Carm., former Prior General.
Ceremonies began with a prayer vigil for the Carmelite Family and numerous pilgrims from the birthplace of Blessed Angelo and from the Diocese of Massa Carrara-Pontremoli. Blessed Angelo, who in his service of God, the poor and the sick gave us an example of love, help us to grow in love for those in greatest need.

The first International Congress on Carmelite Schools was held in Dublin, Ireland, from April 8th to the 13th. The setting chosen was Terenure Colege, the oldest school in the Order, which is celebrating its 150 years of foundation. The congress was attended by more than 70 friars, religious sisters and lay people who represented almost all our schools. These man and women are in charge of the education and formation of thousands of children and young people. Gathered during these days, the participants had the opportunity to share their work and experiences in Carmelite education. They discussed about the importance of transmitting our values and spirituality through our academic institutions.
This congress is a respond to the proposal approved by the General Chapter of 2007. It was organized by the International Commission of Carmelite Schools and Youth presided by Fr. Raul Maravi, O.Carm. The congress offered four wonderful lectures by Fr. Paul Chandler, O.Carm. (Aus), Fr. Micéal O´Neill, O.Carm. (Hib), Mr. Cesar Santa Maria (TOC Peru), and Sr. Visitacion Bas (HVMMC).
In addition, this international gathering was enriched by the presence and participation of our Prior General, Fr. Fernando Millan Romeral, O.Carm. (who presided the Sunday Eucharist in the presence of the school students and the participants in the congress), and from the four General Councilors of the Order, as a symbol of support of our General Council to our educational endeavor in all five continents.

The members of the Latin American Association of Carmelites (ALACAR by its Spanish words) gathered together at the Shrine of Saint Teresa of the Andes in Chile last March 24th and 25th. During these days, Fr. Raul Maravi, O.Carm., Fr. Marcos Juchem, OCD, General Councilors, together with Fr. Francisco de Sales Alencar, O.Carm., and Fr. Milton Moulthon, OCD, associate members, began to organize the third ALACAR Congress, which will be held in October 2012. The theme will be: "Community life in Carmel: gift and sign of joy and hope." These congresses offer an excellent space for fraternity and the spiritual formation of the whole Carmelite Family in Latin America.
