Lectio Divina August 2022

Altar of the Main Shrine at Aylesford England dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption Altar of the Main Shrine at Aylesford England dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption

Father of everlasting goodness, our origin and guide,

be close to us

and hear the prayers of all who praise you. Forgive our sins and restore us to life.

Keep us safe in your love.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"Lectio divina," a Latin term, means "divine reading" and describes a way of reading the Scriptures whereby we gradually let go of our own agenda and open ourselves to what God wants to say to us. In the 12th century, a Carthusian monk called Guigo, described the stages which he saw as essential to the practice of Lectio divina. There are various ways of practicing Lectio divina either individually or in groups but Guigo's description remains fundamental.
