The Province of the Congo was established on October 15, 2026, the feast of St. Theresa of Jesus. It is the first province of the Order on the African continent.
Carmelites from Italy’s Roman Province (predecessor to the Italian Province) first went to Congo (then Zaire) in 1973. The patron of the new province is Blessed Isidore Bakanja.
