Lectio Divina April 2022

Our God and Father,

we claim to be your sons and daughters, who know that you love us,

and that you call us to live the life of Jesus, your Son.

Give us the courage

to live this life consistently

not to show off, not to reprove others, but simply because we know

that you are our Father

and we your sons and daughters,

brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

"Lectio divina," a Latin term, means "divine reading" and describes a way of reading the Scriptures whereby we gradually let go of our own agenda and open ourselves to what God wants to say to us. In the 12th century, a Carthusian monk called Guigo, described the stages which he saw as essential to the practice of Lectio divina. There are various ways of practicing Lectio divina either individually or in groups but Guigo's description remains fundamental.
