Activities of the Prior General


On the 7th of March, the Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm. took part in a Theology Congress which took place in Santiago de Compostela (Spain), at which he delivered a paper on the Sacrament of Penance and its renewal in the context of the Year of Mercy.

The Prior General treated the same topic in a “Webinar” (a live seminar via internet), organised by the Carmelite Institute of North America, on the 19th of March, and in the Theology Days at the Pontifical University of Comillas in Madrid on the 31st of March.

In the company of Fr.Christian Körner, O.Carm, and of various members of the General Curia, the Prior General lead the celebration of the Eucharist in the church of Santa Maria in Monterone in Rome on Sunday the 13th of March, which was attended by Agnès Brethome (Responsable General) and the members of the Council and other members of the different communities of the Donum Dei Missionary Workers (FMDD) in Rome The Eucharist was followed by a fraternal agape in the “L’Eau Vive” restaurant.

On Sunday the 20th of March, the Prior General led the celebration of the Eucharist at the Sandro Pertini hospital in Rome, accompanied by Fr. Carmelo Vitrugno, O.Carm., the chaplain in the hospital. Following the Eucharist, a number of volunteers from the “Elijah the Prophet Association of Volunteers” were presented with their diplomas of accreditation.

Lastly, the Prior General, on the 17th of April, led the celebration of a Mass of Thanksgiving in Cagliari (Sardinia, Italy) on the occasion of the first centenary of the erection of the Carmelite Third Order there. Among those present were, Fr. Giovanni Grosso, O.Carm., the Prior Provincial of the Province of Italy and other Carmelite friars from Cagliari and Sassari. All the Third Order members from Sardinia and some Discalced lay Carmelites also took part in the celebration.

As Carmelites We live our life of allegiance to Jesus Christ and to serve Him faithfully with a pure heart and a clear conscience through a commitment to seek the face of the living God (the contemplative dimension of life), through prayer, through fraternity, and through service (diakonia). These three fundamental elements of the charism are not distinct and unrelated values, but closely interwoven. 

All of these we live under the protection, inspiration and guidance of Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, whom we honor as "our Mother and sister."
