Communications Commission

Christian Körner

Our Carmelite way of life in allegiance to Jesus Christ in contemplation, in fraternity, and in service pertains to the evangelization. Therefore we "Carmelites are to be aware of the growing importance of world-wide communication in present-day society, and of the major technological innovations in this field.

There is no doubt that the mass media can play an important role in evangelization. Our communities shall therefore evaluate the best ways to make use of the mass media, with a view both to safeguarding the contemplative and fraternal dimensions of our lives, and to increasing the effectiveness of our apostolate" (Const. 34, 2). Apart from the exchange of information, the communications within the Order will be an important means for new evangelization and in service of the mission of the Order. Efforts at communication help dialogue communicating the beauty of faith, our Carmelite charism, our spirituality and tradition, and finally they help us to bring people to a personal encounter with Christ.

As Carmelites We live our life of allegiance to Jesus Christ and to serve Him faithfully with a pure heart and a clear conscience through a commitment to seek the face of the living God (the contemplative dimension of life), through prayer, through fraternity, and through service (diakonia). These three fundamental elements of the charism are not distinct and unrelated values, but closely interwoven.

All of these we live under the protection, inspiration and guidance of Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, whom we honor as "our Mother and sister."
