The solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is approaching and - like every year - I would like to send you my most cordial fraternal greetings on our patronal feast, in which we remember Mary under the beloved title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

We have been asked to talk about the problems we faced in our service and animation in our Institutes. I would like to begin this chat but saying that after more than nine years as Prior General of the Order of Carmelites, personally I do not feel “burned out”, exhausted or discouraged.
Dear young Carmelites, from all over the world, who are taking part in this World Youth Day in Krakow, welcome! Make the best of these days of praying, sharing with others and enjoying faith.

I wish to present you with a new edition of the 2000 Ratio Institutionis (RIVC). I say “new edition” in that following a request made to provincials and formators in 2009, many responded indicating that few changes needed to be made. Having considered the positive recommendations and suggestions made by the members of the Order, a number of experts were asked to
|As Carmelites We live our life of allegiance to Jesus Christ and to serve Him faithfully with a pure heart and a clear conscience through a commitment to seek the face of the living God (the contemplative dimension of life), through prayer, through fraternity, and through service (diakonia). These three fundamental elements of the charism are not distinct and unrelated values, but closely interwoven.
All of these we live under the protection, inspiration and guidance of Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, whom we honor as "our Mother and sister."
