At the conclusion of the Carmelite Youth Pilgrimage of Hope, which was held in Rome in July 2010, the participants were asked to write an individual letter to the Prior General in response to his letter addressed to them during the Pilgrimage. A small group of former members of the organizing pilgrimage committee, Dave Twohig O.Carm.(Hib), Luca Sciarelli, O.Carm.(Ita) and Thomas Feiten, O.Carm.(GerS) met recently as guests of the communities in Mainz and Springiersbach, Germany, with the Councillor General for Europe, John Keating, O.Carm. to read and study the letters. Coordinating and using only direct quotations from the letters, they composed a letter entitled “Letter of the Carmelite Young People of Europe to the Prior General”. They also looked at ways in which the spirit and initiative of the Pilgrimage might be carried forward into the future for young people in Europe . The letter (English, Italian, Spanish) and a selection of quotations from the individual letters can be read on the front page of the Order’s website www.ocarm.org. Leaders in all the European provinces that took part in the pilgrimage might make this letter available to the participants.
