Activities of the Prior General

From the 4th to the 6th of July, the Prior General, Fr. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., took part in the 17th Meeting of the Carmelite Family in the Iberian Region which took place in Tarrasa (Barcelona, Spain) and this year was centred on the figure of Fr.. Bartolomé F. M. Xiberta.

Activities of the Prior General

The Prior General, Fr. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., accompanied by Fr. John Keating, O.Carm., Councillor General for Europe, carried out the canonical visitation of the Betica Province, Spain, from the 28th September to the 9th October. On the 1st October he participated in the inauguration of the "Titus Brandsma Memorial" in Nijmegen, the Netherlands (Citoc 87/2010).

Activities of the Prior General

The Prior General Fr. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., participated in the Pilgrimage of Hope for European Youth (citoc-online 65/2010), and in the course for formators of the Order in Camoçim, Brasil (citoc-online 74/2010). Later, accompanied by Fr. Josef Jancar, O. Carm., delegate to the Nuns, he presided at the Eucharist on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Monastery of San Giovanni La Punta (Sicily).

Activities of the Prior General in Australia and East Timor

From the 26th to 29th April, the General Prior, Fr. Fernando Millán, O. Carm. accompanied by Fr. Alberto Herwanta, O. Carm., Councillor General for Asia, Australia and Oceania, participated at the Chapter of the Province of Australia and East Timor. Making the most of his visit to Australia, he inaugurated a new chapel for the Carmelite College (Whitefriar's College) in Donvale and blessed a statue of the Prophet Elijah, the work of a well-known Australian artist, Louis Laumen. The statue stands at the entrance to the chapel.

The Prior General's Activities

Accompanied by the General Councillor for Africa, Fr. Désiré Unen Alimange, the Prior General recently conducted a canonical visitation of the Provincial Commissariat of the Democratic Republic of Congo. During the visit apart from interviews with all the religious in their various houses, he also met with the bishops of Kinshasa, Bunia and Butmebo, the main dioceses where Carmelites are present. The Prior General also held meetings with the students, novices and postulants, as well as with lay Carmelite groups.



As Carmelites We live our life of allegiance to Jesus Christ and to serve Him faithfully with a pure heart and a clear conscience through a commitment to seek the face of the living God (the contemplative dimension of life), through prayer, through fraternity, and through service (diakonia). These three fundamental elements of the charism are not distinct and unrelated values, but closely interwoven. 

All of these we live under the protection, inspiration and guidance of Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, whom we honor as "our Mother and sister."
