During the Provincial Chapter of the Province of Australia and East Timor held on 25-30 April 2010 were elected:

  • Prior Provincial: Fr. Denis Andrew, O.Carm.
  • First Councilor: Fr. David Hofman, O.Carm.
  • Second Councilor: Fr. Paul Cahill, O.Carm.
  • Third Councilor: Fr. Bruce Clark, O.Carm.
  • Fourth Councilor: Fr. Sean Keefe, O.Carm.
Meeting of "Pilgrimage of Hope" Committee

On the 7th and 8th, 17th and 18th April 2010, the organizing committee for the Carmelite European Youth Pilgrimage of Hope met to finalize details for the gathering in Rome from 19th to 25th July next. The pilgrimage for young people from all Carmelite provinces in Europe has already been outlined in three previous reports of CITOC (59/2009, 120/2009, 131/2009) and also on the Order's website (for information see It will pave the way for the World Youth Day in Madrid in 2011.

Carmelites celebrate Blessed Angelo Paoli

Carmel is celebrating and thanking God for the gift of the Beatification of Fr. Angelo Paoli. This morning, 25th April 2010 during a solemn Eucharist in the Papal Arch-basilica of St. John Latern in Rome presided over by the Vicar of His Holiness, Cardinal Agostino Vallini, the representative of the Holy Father and Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Archbishop Angelo Amato, presided at the rite of Beatification.

The Elective Chapter of the Carmelite Monastery of Madrid, Spain, was held 14 April  2010. The following were elected:

Congress on Carmelite Schools

The first International Congress on Carmelite Schools was held in Dublin, Ireland, from April 8th to the 13th. The setting chosen was Terenure Colege, the oldest school in the Order, which is celebrating its 150 years of foundation. The congress was attended by more than 70 friars, religious sisters and lay people who represented almost all our schools. These man and women are in charge of the education and formation of thousands of children and young people.

As Carmelites We live our life of allegiance to Jesus Christ and to serve Him faithfully with a pure heart and a clear conscience through a commitment to seek the face of the living God (the contemplative dimension of life), through prayer, through fraternity, and through service (diakonia). These three fundamental elements of the charism are not distinct and unrelated values, but closely interwoven. 

All of these we live under the protection, inspiration and guidance of Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, whom we honor as "our Mother and sister."
